Memory modules were found on non-optimized memory slot
Hey I got a problem with my new build PC. I use a MSI B450 gaming pro carbon mainboard with 2x8GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB DIMM DDR-3000 RAM. Every time the PC boot I get this message for some seconds «. Memory modules were found on non-optimized memory slot. » At the moment one RAM is in Slot 2 and one in slot 3. The message tells me to move the RAM from slot 3 to slot 4. But it looks odd if I do this because the RAMs are with RGB and you can see them from outside. The message allows me to click on «Don’t remind me again». Is there any Performance lose if I don’t swap the RAM to the other slot or is there a other option to solve this warning message?

Hi everyone,
From what I understand, this is just advising me to change which slots I have my RAM plugged into. My question is, why is it telling me this now when it never used to?
Thanks
DRagor
I’ll check soon and see if they’re in the right slots then report back.
If they are in right slots then failure of one stick could cause such error message. Let’s say you have sticks in slots 2 and 4, and then stick at slot 2 fails (we are assuming kind of failure that won’t stop the board from booting) — so now board only sees one stick at slot 4 and that’s incorrect position for one stick build. So make sure both sticks work.

What motherboard and RAM do you have?
MSI MAG B460M Bazooka Gaming Motherboard
The RAM is two 16s. I need to ask my friend what particular brand/other specs.
I built it myself and really could have sworn I already placed them accordingly.
I need to stop by there and look in the case but thought I’d ask in the meantime.

It’s a friend’s. He says nothing like that has changed. Can a windows update maybe run in the background that could cause it somehow? Like an update he was unaware of that played with some settings or such?

Uh, I saw all kinds of poo Windows update can do, but can’t imagine how it could achieve that feat. My first guess was sticks were indeed placed in wrong slots and just some BIOS setting was preventing the error message from appearing, so BIOS update or CMOS reset could undo it. I think you really need to take a look and see if the sticks are in correct slots. And if they are, your friend’s motherboard must be really confused.
