What To Do When You Cannot Connect To The Company Server

Whether your business’s files are stored internally on a physical server or in the cloud, it’s nerve-racking when you can’t access the files and folders that you need to do your job.

It’s not an easy task to run through all the reasons why you’re unable to access the information stored on your company’s server. Think of the server as the place where your shared drive and all the important files in them are stored— because of this, it’s important to know how to connect to your server in order to streamline productivity and cut down on troubleshooting time.

Outside of knowing the type of server you are trying to access, there are a few other clues that might help resolve your problem more quickly.

Consider the following when you try to figure out why you cannot connect to a server.

1. Restart Your Computer

Even if you don’t know exactly what the problem is, chances are, turning your computer off and on again may help. We don’t know why this often works; it’s just a magic formula that mysteriously resolves 75% of tech issues. It only takes about 30 seconds, so just try and see if it works in helping connect to the company server.

2. Follow the Error Messages

Error messages can tell you a lot. While they don’t give you step-by-step instructions on what to do, every error message will get you one step closer in the right direction. There are a few instances when an error message will tell you what’s going on or why the server or shared drive cannot be reached at the moment, e.g. your password is wrong, computer is pending restart, another software installation is currently in progress, etc.

Even if it doesn’t tell you what’s wrong explicitly, jot down whatever error messages you are getting to narrow down your list of possible resolutions. Doing a quick Google search on the error message could also bring some solutions to light.

3. Identify Where the Shared Drive is Hosted

Is the company’s shared drive hosted in the cloud, or is it hosted internally on a physical server / NAS device? Identifying the hosted location can alter the method of troubleshooting drastically.

Internally Hosted

When dealing with internally hosted shared drives. It’s important to confirm you are connected to the same network that the shared drive is on. This is achieved by connecting to the office’s LAN via wired ethernet, Wi-Fi, or VPN if working remotely.

It’s also important to note that it’s a common practice for organizations to isolate the main network from the guest network. So when confirming your network connection, ensure that your device is connected to the main office network.

Cloud Hosted

If hosted in the cloud, it’s important to also identify the provider of the cloud service. The most common are Microsoft’s Sharepoint and Google Workspace. However, there are a plethora of other cloud services as well. Once you’ve identified the service in which your team’s cloud drive is hosted, the first step in troubleshooting is ensuring that you’re signed into the application using your current credentials for that service. Common reasons why an account might sign out can be due to changes to either the password or MFA policy.

4. Permissions

Whether you’re attempting to connect to a locally hosted or cloud hosted shared drive. You will need the necessary access permissions applied to your account. In times of uncertainty or when requesting access to specific drives or folders you have not accessed before, you might need to reach out to your IT provider to gain access.

5. Look For What Might Be Different

You may have connected to your small business server a hundred times without any problems, and it has become a part of your routine. But consider what’s different— are you using a different log-in? Has the password recently been changed? Has the equipment been upgraded? Are you logging on from a new workstation? Has the internet been reset? Is the network down? Are you using the same browser?

If your company uses a cloud based business server, then it’s also possible that the problem isn’t coming from your end at all. You can almost tell right away if others are having trouble accessing the file server, and a call to the provider can possibly get things working again.

8 Quick Ways to Fix Minecraft Can’t Connect to Server

Encountering the Minecraft can’t connect to server error when you try to launch the game? You’re not alone. This sort of connection issue is quite annoying and can spoil your gaming experience, but don’t worry. Here are 8 easy and proven solutions for you to try.

Fixes to try:

You don’t need to try them all. Simply work from the top down the list until you find the one that does the trick.

Fix 1 – Reboot the network

Restarting the network is always a good first step to troubleshoot network-related issue and fix temporary glitches.

Simply unplug your router and modem, then wait at least ten seconds and plug it back in.

Relaunch Minecraft to check if this trick works. If not, head towards more complicated fixes below.

Fix 2 – Re-login your Minecraft account

You can also sign out of your Minecraft account and then log back in to refresh the profile’s authentication and connection. If this method doesn’t help either, check out the next one.

Fix 3 – Flush your DNS and renew your IP

Flushing DNS and renewing IP is a common but effective solution to Internet disconnectivity of various kinds. So if Minecraft can’t connect to the server, give it a try to see if your issue gets fixed.

Type cmd in the search box. Then, right-click Command Prompt and click Run as administrator.
In the command prompt window, type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.
Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.

Does Minecraft connect to the server correctly? If not, move on to Fix 4 below.

Fix 4 – Change the DNS server

DNS, short for Domain Name System, is a service that enables you to access your favorite sites or online services. If you’re using the Internet Service Provider (ISP)’s default DNS servers, which may be slow or unstable, you’re likely to encounter Minecraft disconnection. You can switch the DNS server to other secure ones like the Google Public DNS.

On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and R at the same time to open the Run command.
Type ncpa.cpl and click OK.
Right-click your current Ethernet and click Properties.
Click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.
Tick the box next to Use the following DNS server addresses. Then enter 8.8.8.8 for preferred DNS server and 8.8.4.4 for alternate DNS server, and click OK.
Restart your computer and launch Minecraft to test.

If you can connect to the Minecraft server and run the game smoothly, then congrats. But if not, there’re a few more fixes to try.

Fix 5 – Update your network driver

The Minecraft can’t connect to server issue may indicate your network driver is corrupted or out-of-date. So you should update the network driver to see if that fixes your problem. There’re mainly two ways you can update the driver: manually or automatically.

Manual driver update – You can go to the website of your computer or motherboard manufacturer, search for the most recent correct driver and then download and install it manually.

I know this question was asked a lot before but I tried some of the solutions which were given and nothing worked. I have downloaded MySQL Workbench 6.1 on my windows 7 x64 and now as I want to start and do a simple DB I set a new MySQL Connection and let it as default the Hostname, port and the username I just set the name of the connection. In the beginning it was showing down in the action output that Could not connect. Server may not be run and in the msg part it was written Can’t connect to MySQL server on ‘127.0.0.1’ (10061) but I thought I would be able to do a DB and test it Then I created simple DB and when I wanted to execute it I couldn’t press the Bolt which execute the DB so I tried from Query and I pressed the 2nd option which is «Execute(All or Selection) to text» as I couldn’t choose any other option and this error was shown Can’t connect to MySQL server on ‘127.0.0.1’ (10061) (2003) I am new in this I have used SQL*Plus for a while but it is not the same.
