Symptoms

Trying to start the Virtual Machine you get the following error message:

"There is no operating system installed in this virtual machine. Please insert an operating system installation CD into the optical drive of your Mac and restart the virtual machine." 

Cause

• The error message indicates that Windows Operating System is not installed in the Virtual Machine.
• Your Windows Installation disk or .iso file may be corrupted or non-bootable
• You did not connect an Operating System image of CD/DVD and started virtual machine installation

Resolution

Option 1

1. Start Parallels Desktop.
2. On top MAC menu bar click on File menu ->New -> choose Install Windows -> Click Continue and follow the instructions.

Note: For more information you may follow the instruction in the KB article: KB4729

Option 2

Download another .iso file or get another original installation disk from manufacturer

Note: Original means that this iso file/DVD is not modified by 3rd party persons

Option 3

If you are not able to install from DVD (e.g. there is no DVD-ROM in MacBook Air) you may create an .iso image on other computer. Please refer to the following KB article: KB4917

Option 4

Connect your DVD/iso file:

1. In virtual machine Configuration go to Hardware >CD/DVD 1.
2. Make sure that Connected box is checked.
3. Specify the disk/image location in Connect to: box.

I copied the image of Windows Embedded 7 T510 using HP thin client capture on a USB port. Now, I’m trying to load this image in an another thin client Embedded Win 7 T510 via a USB port.

However, when the customer starts using this image of the USB, I get error below.

«Error: the system does not license for the OS image! The system does not have the specified path.

What solutions do you recommend.

HP Thin Client OS Update / Reinstall

The OS images, per the device label, comes in different flavors, such as 16WWFTAJ6 or 16WWFTEJ602 etc. HP is showing on their support site how to «download the latest OS images», and this is supposed to be done with an HP-supplied software called «ThinUpdate».

So I tried. When installing the HP ThinUpdate (on a Windows 10 desktop machine), it comes up with a list of OS images I can download for the t630 thin client — but none of the images codes fit to the ones I have on my existing thin clients. When I download any of the images on that list, make a bootable USB key (all from within ThinUpdate), and then trying to boot a thin client with it, it does start the update, but then it says

*** Error *** the system does not have license for the image OS

This sounds really weird — on one hand, HP promotes that you can download the «latest OS images» but then they forbid you install those? Windows-wise there is NO license problem, if the device has any Windows 10 license hardcoded somewhere, this will be valid for ALL versions of Windows 10. So is HP creating their own licensing system?

I don’t know if I do something wrong, but whatever I try ends up with no way to install.

My conclusions so far is as follows — please someone correct me if that’s wrong:

a. Each HP thin client devices have a specific factory image. They are tied to this device «generation».

b. HP updates these images from time to time (and may also update the hardware), but when an image is updated, it is only available for new devices shipped with that image.

c. If you want to upgrade the OS, you have to buy a new device. It’s simple after all, they only cost $600 or so a piece.

d. If you really want to upgrade the OS, you are otherwise on your own. HP does not give a damn about people like you and won’t provide an «official image» for you — make your own Windows 10 IOT, and try to download HP device drivers and spend some hours to see if it works.

There is nothing in the manuals saying anything about it — from what it says, one just downloads an image from ThinUpdate and install. No info that HP imposes its own brand of «license» on top of Windows licensing.

Curiously, I do not seem to find much in the internet discussing this problem. There are a few forum entries, which seem to give up and there is no stable reliable clear-cut information.

Like to get some reliable information from anyone which has worked with this.
